New Mexico city police make two drug bustsTucumcari, New Mexico police served two search warrants last week leading to three arrests and the seizing of drugs worth more than an estimated $8,000, police said Monday. According to New Mexico police reports, around 3 p.m. Thursday, officers entered the residence of Loretta Muller, 41, at 125 N. 6th in Tucumcari. It was there New Mexico police said they found about 77 grams of methamphetamine various drug paraphernalia and $1,809 in cash.
Muller was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Court documents show she was released from the Quay County Detention Center the next day on $3,000 bond. Muller could not be reached for comment.
Tucumcari, New Mexico Deputy Police Chief Dennis Smart said the bust was unusually large.
“That was a real good fined,” Smart said. “That is quite a bit really, it is not usually that much.”
According to reports, the search warrant was executed by five Tucumcari, New Mexico officers and a New Mexico State Police sergeant. The Region Five Drug Task Force was not involved in the bust, but task force Sgt. Jay Longley estimated the amount of meth seized at about $7,000.
Longley said meth is often smuggled north from Mexico and can be snorted, injected or smoked. Meth has become the drug of choice for many, Longley said, because a high can last as long as 10 hours compared to the cocaine, which may render a person high for about an hour.
“It is really easy to manufacture,” Longley said. “People are just realizing how easy it is to come by.”
Just one day earlier, police searched a house at 508 S. Elder and found 24 packets of suspected cocaine, police reports stated. According to police, Henry Chacon, 57, was arrested on charges of trafficking a controlled substance.
He was released from QCDC on Thursday on $3,000 bond, and could not be reached for comment.
New Mexico police estimated about one quarter to one half grams of suspected cocaine to be inside each packet, totaling a street value of about $1,000. According to the report, a 39-year-old man was also arrested during the search for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The bust comes just one month after police found about 20 grams of heroin worth an estimated $4,000 at a house located just two blocks from Tucumcari High School.
